Canadian P2P Fibre Systems Ltd. was incorporated in Ottawa in 2007 as a result of the coming together of SRDP, Teltech 2000, and of CANARIE, Canada's advanced Internet organisation, and it's then CTO.

"P2P" amalgamates the collective experience and vision of all 3 organisations in the engineering, construction, maintenance, and customer-empowerment of private dedicated telecommunications links over dark fibre.

Founded in 1993, Teltech 2000 has been engineering, installing, and maintaining over 3000 km of School Board and municipal fibre optic network as well as for an even greater number of kilometres of fibre optic networks for large and small telecommunications carriers alike, including SRDP.

SRDP was founded in 1999, and has since been providing institutions and businesses in the metropolitan Montreal area with dedicated private network connections on its 30 million+ fibre-meter fibre optic infrastructure.

René Hatem joined P2P as founding President, after 12 and a half years at CANARIE , where he served the Canadian scientific research and higher education communities, as well as elements of an emerging knowledge-based industry.  At CANARIE, René was responsible for overseeing the engineering, construction and operations and maintenance of several generations of one of the world's most advanced research and education network backbones.  As part of those responsibilities, René also saw himself on the client side of purchasing metropolitan-area and wide-area dark fibre, and of leading-edge optical Internet equipment to light it.
